Donald Mette was sworn in as Fire Chief of the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District on October 28, 2005.  The District provides services through 42 fire stations and approximately 750 personnel to more than 640,000 residents in a 417 square mile area of Sacramento County, the Cities of Citrus Heights and Rancho Cordova, and a small portion of Placer County.

 Chief Mette is a 25 year Fire Service veteran, serving as a Battalion Chief, Fire Captain, Engineer and Firefighter with the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District and two of its predecessor agencies; Sacramento County Fire District and the Citrus Heights Fire District.   

He has been instrumental in developing and maintaining the standards for new firefighters through his work as a Fire Academy Instructor and on internal District committees focused on Training, Truck Company Operations and District Master Planning. 

Chief Mette has dedicated his professional life not only to protecting the public as a firefighter, but as a representative for firefighters in improving both the safety and training for those who chose this career.  He has participated in many fire service programs and activities, including officer and director for Firefighters Local 522, as well as Chairperson and Director for Police and Fire Games in California and the Western States. 

Chief Mette received an Associate of Arts Degree in Fire Science, received his Associate of Arts in General Education from Sacramento City College, and is completing his Bachelors Degree in Public Administration from the University of San Francisco.
